THE BORINQUENEERS
Producer/Director/Writer: Noemi Figueroa Soulet
Co-Producer/Director: Raquel Ortíz
Genre: Documentary
Length: 1 Episode/60 Minutes
Broadcast Date: August 1, 2007
This compelling film chronicles the untold story of the all-Puerto Rican 65th Infantry Regiment, the only Hispanic-segregated unit in U.S. Army history. Rare archival footage and intimate interviews explore the triumphs and the painful tribulations of these veterans who served meritoriously in three wars. Although performing with distinction during the Korean War, the Borinqueneers of the 65th would face their greatest challenge when more than 100 soldiers were arrested for abandoning their positions without orders. Narrated by Héctor Elizondo.
